Forefront 1994 Research Highlights: Neutron Particles Under Scrutiny. This article by Nancy Bronstein in Forefront 1994 gives an overview of Prof. Vujic's work on the development of GTRAN2, a state-of-the-art reactor core modelling code.

Pro New Nuke: In April, Greenpeace co-founder Patrick Moore, standing before members of the U.S. Congress, stated that "nuclear energy is the only non-greenhouse-gas-emitting power source that can effectively replace fossil fuels and satisfy global demand." In last month's issue of Technology Review, 1960s icon Stewart Brand, creator of the Whole Earth Catalog, wrote that "the only technology ready to fill the gap and stop the carbon dioxide loading of the atmosphere is nuclear power." Many environmentalists are none-too-thrilled at these public comments from their allies, current or former. On the other hand, UC Berkeley professor Jasmina Vujic is thrilled. According to her research, Moore and Brand are absolutely right.

Teaching and Research

Professor Vujic teaches undergraduate courses in introduction to nuclear engineering, introduction to nuclear reactor theory, and radiation protection and control, as well as graduate courses in nuclear reactor theory, and numerical methods in reactor design and analysis. Her research interests include development of advanced numerical methods for the neutronic analysis of nuclear reactors, radiation shielding, and medical applications of radiation; neutron and photon transport theory; reactor core design and analysis; optimization techniques for vector and parallel computing systems. Recently, she and Prof. Prussin developed a new Bionuclear and Radiological Physics option within the Engineering Science/ Bioengineering Program.

Проф. др. Јасмина Л. Вујић (Лозница, 25. децембар 1953) је прва жена декан катедре за нуклеарни инжењеринг на једном од 10 најбољих и најцењенијих факултета у Америци, на Калифорнијском универзитету у Беркли. Након деканске позиције, Јасмина је остала редован професор на факултету док је уједно радила на оснивању Центра за нукларна истраживања, чији је и директор. Јасмина је потпредседник Тесла меморијалног удружења у Њујорку. Јасмина Вујић је некадашњи научни сарадник Института за нуклеарне науке Винча. Рођена је у Лозници 1953. године. Родитељи су били учитељи у селу Завлака, у Рађевини, али су добили премештај за Шабац, тако да је Јасмина тамо одрасла и завршила основну школу и математичку гимназију.

Јасмина Вујић предаје основне курсеве о нуклеарном инжењерингу, увод до теорије нуклеарних реактора, заштиту од радијације, контрола радијације, нумеричке методе при пројектовању и анализирању реактора.

Специјално интересовање посвећује Нумеричким методама у физици реактора, транспорту неутрона и фотона, дизајну језгра реактора и његовој анализи, заштити од радијације, биомедицинксим апликацијама зрачења, оптимизацији технике.

Father Mateja Matejić

Mateja Matejić (born 1924) (Serbian Cyrillic: Матеја Матејић) - Priest of Serbian Orthodox Church, emigrant since 1945, and the Professor Emeritus of Slavic languages and Literatures at Ohio State University. Matejic graduated from the Slavic Department in the USA where he received his Ph.D.

Mateja Matejić is a founder of the Chilandar scientific project at the Ohio State University in Columbus, where he has been teaching Slavic languages since 1968. He is a founder and director of the publishing house Kosovo, as well as the editor of the Path of Orthodoxy magazine.

Christ - The Alpha and Omega

The Serbian Orthodox Diocese of Western America is pleased to announce the publication of an outstanding book by Bishop Athanasius Yevtich, a disciple of the great twentieth-century theologian Archimandrite Justin Popovich. Bishop Athanasius' thought combines adherence to the teachings of the Church Fathers with a vibrant faith and a profound experience of Christ in the Church.

Christ - The Alpha and Omega is the first of a planned collection of works of contemporary Serbian theologians. It is an anthology of Bishop Athanasius' articles which have appeared in Serbian, Greek, French, English and Russian. Focusing on themes central to Christian patristic Triadology, Ecclesiology and Anthropology, the book reveals the ultimate purpose of man and the universe, and speaks of how each of us can realize this purpose within the divine-human community of the Orthodox Church. Bishop Athanasius reminds us that the God-man Jesus Christ is the Beginning and the End of all things, and that we must seek our own end, goal, and fulfillment in Him.
